THE GREENHOUSE

The Greenhouse is an opportunity for devising theatre makers to be artistically supported in the development of a new work.

Red Leap Theatre invites three new works into The Greenhouse 2024. These works will be offered a 7 day
development workshop, facilitated by Red Leap Theatre’s Artistic Director Ella Becroft.

4-10 November 2024, Auckland.

Each production will receive:

  • A $1,200 budget for the workshop period
  • Rehearsal space at Corban Estate Arts Centre, Auckland
  • Two 2.5 hour sessions with an industry mentor, either during or outside of the workshop
  • A work-in-progress showing to offer feedback on your ideas, hosted by Red Leap

We will encourage connection and collaboration between the projects to unlock the potential of new ideas. Companies will work independently and at times together, and will regularly show each other material for feedback.

To apply:

The Greenhouse is for directors of devised physical theatre/dance.

Directors are asked to apply with an idea for a new piece of original theatre, in the concept stage or  in the early stages of development. Both scripted and non-scripted work will be considered.

Both emerging and established practitioners are encouraged to apply. We welcome you to get in touch at any stage for advice on the application process. We are here to help.

To apply directors need to submit:

  • What is the idea? - A brief written outline of the project.
  • How will you approach your idea? - A short explanation on what you wish to explore during the workshop
  • How will you use the budget? eg. on performers, set design materials, specialist collaborators
  • Who is involved? - A current bio/CV for any artists attached to the project

“The practitioners who came in to work with us opened up parallel worlds that I hadn’t considered previously, removed preconceived limits. I’ve come away with new and practical tools to continue developing with. It was also a terrifically stimulating environment being with all these other great makers.” Greenhouse Participant
