“My mother says kids have to take care of themselves. That’s how we avoid turning into sea-foam and falling down wells. That’s how we escape witches and kings who chop and curse and snip and steal. That’s why I practice punching every afternoon.”
A child looks to the skies, to her father, and the space in her life her mother once filled. The father delves under the foundations of his own home, even as they shift beneath his feet. The mother flies far away, leaving a single feather as legacy.
Cygnet is an inter-generational journey, a perilous folk-tale and a coming of age story told through Red Leap’s signature physical-theatre lens. An allegory of loss, discovery and imagination’s power to change worlds. Based on the short story by Lara Ehrlich exploring swan bride folklore, Cygnet is a non-verbal, visually captivating production featuring puppetry, bold physicality, and live projection for ages 8+.
